The Healing Art of Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient and modern therapy using the pressure of touch to bring the body into healthful balance so as to offset illness and pain. It is based on the premise that our glands and organs have corresponding reflex points and that some of the most accessible points are located on our hands and feet. Organs that are located in a particular zone can be stimulated by pressing these various reflex points. It is believed that the art of reflexology releases energy blocks and allows energy currents to flow properly throughout the body to help and maintain good health and well-being.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q. What are the benefits of reflexology ?
A. It reduces nervous tension and induces relaxation; improves sleep patterns, blood circulation, digestion, bowel function; it relieves pain without the side effects of medication and actually helps the body to heal itself. Reflexology has been used effectively in the relief of arthritis pain, asthma, headaches, heart problems, pain of hemorrhoids, sore throat, ulcers and many other illnesses.

Q. Do you need to know a person's medical history to remedy their problems?
A. Not at all. Problem areas show up in the tenderness of the reflex "buttons" in the hands and feet.

Q. How long does it take to experience results?
A. Results can be immediate or gradual depending upon the degree of congestion encountered. If there is a lot of crystallization of toxins (tender spots), treatment is recommended every few days at first.

Q. Are there any other therapies that relate to Reflexology?
A. Reflexology as practiced in the U.S. is based upon zone therapy according to Dr. William Fitzgerald - that is, the body including the hands and feet is divided into ten vertical zones, which provide us an anatomical/topographical aid, such as is used to divide the globe by meridians. Reflexology also incorporates acupressure points on the feet, hands and legs.

Q. How could one learn more about Reflexology?
A. Your local library has some excellent books on reflexology. The best way, of course, is to have a treatment - or sign up for one of my introductory classes.

Q. Can Reflexology benefit children and older people as well?
A. Children are very responsive to reflexology. Foot and hand reflexology is especially good for senior citizens as it rejuvenates the entire body. The blood flow tends to to get sluggish over the years and the energy impulses from reflexing stimulate the system and slow aging by reactivating the body's natural process of rejuvenation and regeneration of cells.
